Salzach Bridge

Oberndorf

17,63 km from Salzburg Residence Palace

The border bridge between Austria and Germany is considered one of the finest examples of bridge engineering in Europe.

After the wooden bridge had been destroyed several times by heavy floods in the 1890s, a solid construction of steel and stone was built at a flood-proof location.

Built in 1903, the impressive construction links the two towns of Oberndorf (Austria) and Laufen (Germany). The idea of maintaining good neighborly relations in good times and bad times is also conveyed in the ode by Michael Hörl, presented at the opening of the bridge on June 2, 1903.
