Anklöpfeln

The last three Thursdays before Christmas are called "Klöpfelnächte". Musicians, encased as herdsmen, come to every house, singing Christmas songs. After the blessings they get some bounties for charitable donation.

This tradition exists since the 15th century, based on the Gospel of Luke: Jesus gives everyone, who knocks on his door, the chance to decide between good and evil.
