Hüttschlag is a former mining community located at the end of Grossarltal valley at an elevation of 1,020 meters above sea level. Hüttschlag has been a part of the biggest nature sanctuary in the Alps, Hohe Tauern National Park, since 1991.
Since 2008, Hüttschlag has also found itself amongst the ranks of "Austria"s Mountaineering Villages", meeting a set of very stringent qualifying criteria set forth by the Austrian Alpine Association within the framework of the International Alpine Convention.
