The Baroque Calvary Chapel is located on the Totenberg (Hill of the Dead) above Oberndorf.
St. Nepomuk’s Statue at the foot of the Totenberg is beginning of a staircase of 139 steps. Originally, the staircase had 150 steps, referring to the 15 “Mysteries“ of the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious parts of the rosary. The staircase leads up to the high, semi-circular chapel whose front side is open. Inside, the semicircle is decorated with a fresco, depicting a rocky hill with Jesus Christ hanging on the cross between the two thieves and with Mary and John standing on either side of the cross.
